Following Audubon bird count rules, birders will make 15 five-minute stops from West End to East End. At each timed stop, birders count birds and call out what they see.
The fall 2019 bird count began under overcast skies, with thick clouds and fog, but the weather this Saturday is predicted to be sunny, in the 60s!

These years I have been grateful for the opportunity to document and help bring attention to Seagrass Meadows surrounding our precious Fishers Island. Growing up here, I never imagined decades later there would be a dire need for Community to actively help restore, preserve and sustain this unique critical habitat.

There will be a Fishers Island Seagrass Management Meeting Tues Oct. 23rd in the Museum 1:30-4:00. All are welcome.
Guest speakers, Matias Tong, Data Technician, and Stephen Lloyd, Sr. Spatial Analyst/GIS Manager – both with the TNC – will present their analyses and results of the boating and eelgrass surveys conducted around Fishers Island last year. NYSDEC representative, Vicky O’Neill, will also attend.
FIConservancy’s Nature Days is back! This year, enjoy a Free Family Event Sat. Aug. 11, 3-6 p.m. at the Parade Grounds. Enter through the Demonstration Garden.
Learn about local wildlife through hands-on discovery. Have an up-close visit with a bird of prey, touch turtles and snakes, meet frogs, see and touch feathers, furs and many other natural items.
Don’t miss the ice cream truck, and stop by for wine, beer and lemonade.

NOTE: The FI Conservancy has a passionate and motivated team this year working on beach and marine debris clean up. We have spent the last two years turning this program into a year round initiative, collecting and disposing of debris in all public recreational areas, roads, habitats, etc. This program is imperative to the future and preservation of our shorelines and natural beauty that continues to amaze us here on Fishers Island. There are some areas we may have to access alongside properties and/or parking nearby.

Audubon Greenwich is hosting a native plant sale May 19-20 at 613 Riversville Rd, Greenwich, CT.
Pre-orders are recommended as not all plants on the list will be available the day of the sale. All plant orders MUST be received by MAY 10 and can be picked up May 19-20. Native plant enthusiasts are also welcome to choose from available stock on the days of the plant sale.

The University of Delaware team of Adam Mitchell, Emily Baisden and Will Aleida will lead the bird count and be available to answer all questions about migratory birds.
FIConservancy President Tom Sargent and his wife Allison will host a reception at their house Sat. May 5 at 6:30 p.m. for all those participating in the Spring Migration Bird Count and for anyone else interested in meeting the University of Delaware experts.
