Community Education

Doug Tallamy

Doug Tallamy, University of Delaware entomologist and educator, explains the benefits of successful grassland restoration at Parade Grounds.

FIConservancy’s mission can be fully successful only when the Island community is also engaged in the challenge of conservation on Fishers Island, either through action or awareness.

This is one of our most exciting initiatives, because it is through education that the community will understand problems and become motivated to find solutions.

“Native Gardens” will soon reflect the increasing efforts of Island residents to focus on native plants in gardens and landscaping. “Island Sentinels” and “Fishers Island School” record FIConservancy Naturalist Justine Kibbe’s creative programs to educate the younger generation about the critical importance of stewardship.
