Tom Sargent, President of the Fishers Island Conservancy, presenting at Sunset on the Beach Photo by Jane Crary
On Saturday, July 19th, the Fishers Island Conservancy hosted our annual Sunset on the Beach event and what a night it was!
With clear skies, a warm breeze, and golden-hour views over the water, the evening brought together friends, families, and fellow nature lovers to celebrate community and conservation. The Beach Club was filled with conversation, laughter, and the kind of connection that makes this event so special.
This year’s gathering held extra meaning as we honored Dr. Doug Tallamy for his decades of work in conservation, ecology, and education. As a leading voice in native plant advocacy and co-founder of Homegrown National Park, Dr. Tallamy has inspired thousands to rethink their role in restoring biodiversity, from backyard gardeners to national organizations.
We were proud to recognize his contributions with a heartfelt thank you and a small tribute during the evening, surrounded by guests who have been moved by his message and mission.

The entire weekend was filled with energy, curiosity, and a shared love for the natural world. From Friday evening’s engaging conservation panel and late-night moth observation, to Saturday’s nature walk and insect exploration in the Parade Grounds, every event brought people together to learn, connect, and explore. Sunday closed out the weekend on a high note with another walk led by Dr. Tallamy, followed by his impactful talk and book signing at the Movie Theater. It was a true celebration of community-driven conservation, and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined us.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on the beach and to all who helped make the weekend such a success. Stay connected for more events and ways to get involved.
