Shorebird Fencing Volunteer Day

April 2026

Join us on Thursday, April 9th for a volunteer fencing day as we prepare for the return of nesting shorebirds on Fishers Island. We’ll be installing symbolic fencing at key beach sites to help protect species like Piping Plovers and Least Terns, which nest directly on the sand and are especially vulnerable this time of year.

This is a simple but important way to support a successful breeding season and protect sensitive shoreline habitat. Sean Wiedemann, Wildlife Biologist, will be there to help guide the work and share more about the species we’re protecting.

We’ll meet at 10:30 am outside the Community Center. Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves and dress for the weather. All are welcome to join and lend a hand.
