Nature Day

Nature Days is one of Fishers Island Conservancy’s most anticipated annual events and a favorite for families, children, and anyone curious about the natural world. Held each summer, in August, Nature Days invites the community to explore, learn, and connect with the landscapes and wildlife that make Fishers Island so special.

For many years, Nature Days has been a hands on celebration of nature at the Parade Grounds. What began as a small educational gathering has grown into a lively, interactive event that reflects the Conservancy’s commitment to education, stewardship, and community engagement.

What Nature Days Is All About

Nature Days is designed to spark curiosity and appreciation for the island’s ecosystems. The event features a series of outdoor stations and activities led by Conservancy staff, partners, and guest educators. Visitors can learn about native plants, insects, birds, and other wildlife through direct observation, demonstrations, and informal conversation.

The day is especially welcoming to younger audiences, but it consistently draws adults who are just as eager to learn. Whether it’s seeing insects up close, learning about grassland habitats, or asking questions of local experts, Nature Days creates space for discovery at every age.

A Community Tradition

Over time, Nature Days has become a summer tradition on Fishers Island. Families return year after year, children grow up attending the event, and new visitors are introduced to the Conservancy’s work in an approachable and memorable way.

Nature Days also highlights the importance of the Parade Grounds as both a restored landscape and a place for learning. Hosting the event there allows people to experience firsthand how conservation, restoration, and education come together.

Nature Days reflects a core belief of the Conservancy that conservation works best when people feel connected to the places they are helping protect. By creating positive, hands on experiences in nature, the event builds understanding, stewardship, and long term care for the island’s environment.

We are proud of Nature Days not only as an event, but as an example of how education and community can support conservation in meaningful ways.

Nature Days continues to evolve each year, shaped by new ideas, partnerships, and the interests of the community. We look forward to welcoming new and returning faces each summer and sharing the wonder of Fishers Island’s natural world.
